& more about me
Unbeknownst to me I started down the yoga path during my Sophomore year at the University of Connecticut. While studying theatre (I wanted to be a casting director, they told me to study acting), we spent every morning warming up our bodies through movement. Our tight-knit group of theatre kids were guided through qigong, ballet stretches, & relaxation, during which our Miss Jean went on about colourful wheels of energy moving around our bodies.
Upon being thrown into the real world after graduation, I had a gnawing feeling that something was missing. I tried a yoga video, and there they were, those colourful wheels of energy from my theatre movement class. Chakras! The video led to a class at Equinox. The class at the gym led to a class at a yoga studio. The class at the yoga studio led to my first 200hr yoga teacher training program at Be Yoga with Alan Finger in New York. ISHTA yoga (Integrated Science of Hatha Yoga, Tantric Philosophy, & Ayurvedic medicine) gave me my foundation and a deeper understand of what yoga was really all about. I discovered that it went a lot deeper than stretching and colourful wheels of energy.
I was incredibly lucky to spend the next 5 years teaching at Elements Yoga & Wellness Centre. I benefited from amazing mentors and an extended yoga family who were all essential in my growth as a yoga instructor. During my time in Darien, CT I was given access to Anusara Immersions and the Level 1 Anusara teacher training program with Bernadette Birney, Bruce Bassock, & Ross Rayburn. Living in the tri-state area I was able to study with some of the best instructors in North America!
Prince Edward Island became my home in 2009. I spent 9 years teaching classes regularly at Dynamic Fitness (with one life-changing year becoming a mom)! I have had the opportunity to meet all the amazing students who have become my inspiration and my closest friends in my new home.
In 2013 one of those friends followed her dream to develop a teacher training program and invited me to come along for the ride! I began training aspiring yoga teachers with Samantha Sambrooke's Maritime Yoga College. Six years at 80+ new yoga teachers later, I now offer the Asana (postures) portion of YTT as a 40hr Immersion to anyone interested in a deeper understanding of their physical practice.
2018 was a pivotal year in my teaching career. I branched out on my own to create 3eYoga my independent yoga business. This led me to my new yoga home at Charlottetown Yoga Space!
